Residência Cruzada [Crossed Residence] is part of the Caravan programming cycle and is carried out in partnership with Artistes en Résidence in Clermont-Ferrand, France.
For the 2019 residency, artists Emmy Ols (FR) and Rita Senra (PT) were selected, who for a month will develop works in the opposite cities. These works will be presented at the exhibition room of Maus Hábitos - Espaço de Intervenção Cultural during October.
Emmy Ols (Aurillac, 1995) lives and works in Clermont-Ferrand (FR). After her graduation in 2018, she co-founded the association "Somme Toute", an independent art-space, in order to promote young artists. Her artistic practice goes around the discipline of installation, video, performance and sound. Her works constantly question the notion of representation and address. By appropriating codes and common places, she tries to engage the spectator in it's own play. She doesn't build real, serious and practical objects but only phantoms (she loves to call them Tricksters) who replace things that we considered totally real, true and real. If she understood something, it's only the fact that all of the world's images we perceived are constructed. That is fiction. And we are all Homo Pictor.
Rita Senra (Barcelos, 1993) lives and works in Porto. She has a degree in Fine Arts from the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. Was part of Jirího Príhody’s studio - Akademie výtvarných umení v Praze; Czech Republic, 2015, under the Erasmus-exchange program. Her artistic practice goes around the disciplines of drawing and installation, culminating in exhibitions - mostly group shows - since the year 2014.
Since 2016 she has been part of the Sismógrafo - an independent art space founded by the non-profit cultural association Salto no Vazio. In 2018, she began her collaboration with the Confederação - an association for theatre investigation.
