PT

O projecto “Performative TV” de Beatriz Albuquerque teve início em 2014, em New York, e explora as margens entre performance, media, corpo e género em ambientes televisivos construídos. Conceptualmente, a obra inspira-se nas experiências televisivas de Andy Warhol e no legado da Pop Art, particularmente na sua relação com a cultura de massas, a celebridade e a repetição.

Nesta série em desenvolvimento, Beatriz Albuquerque realiza breves performances em cenários de televisão, transformando espaços ficcionais em lugares de intervenção artística e explorando este limiar. Ao inserir o seu próprio corpo nestes contextos altamente codificados, questiona de que modo os papéis e as identidades de género são produzidos, preformados e difundidos pela sociedade.

Cada acção é documentada através de fotografia e vídeo. Um elemento central do projecto emerge no processo de impressão: as fotografias foram impressas com tinteiros parcialmente esgotados, originando distorções cromáticas inesperadas. Estas alterações não resultam de manipulação digital, mas de falhas mecânicas que se tornam parte integrante da obra. As imagens apresentadas são fotografias dessas impressões com erro.

As três imagens exibidas em MUPIs resultam de performances realizadas nos cenários das séries The Americans, Quântico e Gossip Girl, aprofundando a reflexão sobre ficção, identidade e realidade que vive numa margem mediada.

BIO

Beatriz Albuquerque (Porto) é artista interdisciplinar, professor e investigador. Tem o Doutoramento pela Columbia University em Nova Iorque com uma Bolsa FCT e com uma Bolsa Fulbright/FLAD. Concluiu a Licenciatura na Faculdade de Belas Artes da Universidade do Porto e o Master of Fine Arts no The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Tem colaborado com centros de investigação, cátedras e institutos europeus e sul-americanos, integrando projetos, pronunciando conferências e publicando uma ensaística que coloca em diálogo as suas áreas de formação e interesse científico. Foi galardoada com vários prémios e menções como o Myers Art Award pela Columbia University, Nova Iorque assim como, o Prémio Revelação pela 17ª Bienal de Cerveira em Portugal e o Prémio de Performance Ambient Series, PAC/edge Performance Festival, Chicago.

The project “Performative TV” by Beatriz Albuquerque began in 2014 in New York and explores the intersection of performance, media, body, and gender within constructed television environments. Conceptually, the work draws inspiration from the television experiments of Andy Warhol and the legacy of Pop Art, particularly their engagement with mass media, celebrity culture, and repetition.

In this ongoing series, Beatriz Albuquerque stages short performances inside television set spaces, transforming fictional narrative scenarios into sites of embodied artistic intervention. By inserting her own body into these highly coded environments, she questions how gender roles and identities are produced, performed, and circulated through pop culture.

Each action is documented through photography and video. A key element of the project emerges during the printing process: the photographs were printed with depleted ink cartridges, generating unexpected color distortions and chromatic shifts. These altered tones are not digitally manipulated but are mechanical accidents that become integral to the work. The exhibited images are photographs of these misprinted prints.

The three MUPI images derive from performances staged on the sets of The Americans, Quântico, and Gossip Girl, further blurring fiction, identity, and mediated reality.

BIO

Beatriz Albuquerque (Porto, Portugal) is an artist, performer, teacher and researcher (they/them). They hold a PhD from Columbia University in New York with a Foundation for Science and Technology Scholarship and a Fulbright/Luso-American Foundation Scholarship. They completed their degree at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and their Master of Fine Arts at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. They have been awarded several prizes and mentions such as the Myers Art Award from Columbia University, New York, as well as the Revelation Award from the 17th Cerveira Biennial in Portugal and the Ambient Series Performance Award, PAC/edge Performance Festival, Chicago.

They have collaborated with European and American research centers, chairs and institutes, integrating projects, giving lectures and publishing essays that bring into dialogue his areas of training and scientific interest as well as the interdisciplinary of the media used.
