The Mupi Gallery opens this month, on 17 March, another exhibition of the emerging artists platform Floating Islands, curated by Isabel Trabulo and Carmo Osul, this time from Joana Couto.
In Objecto Matriz (Matrix Object) Joana Couto proposes, through an X-ray to a washing machine, a closer look at what, until then, had no aesthetic value, only functional. Overlapping layers of information suggest a new order of three-dimensionality, in a set of 3 works composed by transfers and oil prints on newspaper paper.
Joana Couto is an artist who has developed a very interesting work in the area of manual printing, monotypes and transfers. Coming from the Fine Arts University of Porto, her work stands for her delicate way of construction and collage that builds images through overlays, that suggest much more than the object behind the representation itself.
