“da serra e da terra” proposes a set of works by five artists from different Portuguese geographies. It is from the mountain that the drive of the land gains weight in their artistic explorations, in practices that are based on an experience lived from the rural materials.

The works presented are carried out under a telluric impulse, either through routes and research on the matter, through the use of clay in ceramics, through intimate observation of the fire's gestures or through daily experience in the mountain, where art and life intersect.

Film, text, ceramic, wood carving and drawing come together in this project, with an exhibition design carried out by the curators – also artists.

About the curators:

Daniel Moreira and Rita Castro Neves are artists who live and work in Porto, with separate exhibition paths, who have been collaborating since 2015. Daniel Moreira is an architect, starting in 2000 a multidisciplinary path between architecture and visual arts. Rita Castro Neves, after finishing the Advanced Course in Photography at Ar.Co and the Master in Fine Art of the Slade School of Fine Art in London, started a regular artistic activity, teaching (currently at the Faculty of Fine Arts of Porto) and curating.

Since they were challenged in 2015 by the Finnish artistic space Oksasenkatu 11 to carry out a collaborative project, they have regularly exhibited in Portugal and abroad. Artistic residences (São Paulo, Maputo, Alvito, Serra da Estrela...) and study trips (Japan with Fundação Oriente scholarship) have been important for the development of their body of work.
