Reminder

A mupi usually announces completeness. Here, these mupis announce hints of what is to come. Prompts in large print. Reminders-pictures that are moments of a trip to two cities in the Algarve (South of Portugal), Castro Marim and Portimão, and about the memory and the narratives constructed in the experience of travelling to film. 

The moments highlighted by the images Mala do carro, Eu e o Bastos, Sala da Margarida, and No restaurante poetize and translate encounters that took place on different days. They are photograms of a film that has not yet been presented to the public but that translate the encounter between similar people.

Are these reminders, presented here in an autonomous way, records of that experience from present or absent bodies, mirrors of micro-narratives?

About the artist

Max Fernandes Oliveira (Guimarães-PT, 1979) is a visual artist and educator. He has developed his practice based on the Poetics of Relationship. About his individual artistic practice, we can refer as the recent exhibitions: “Figuras no Pensamentos Visual Crítico - part II” (2021); “Um corpo um rio” (2021); “Redor” (2021); and “Contemplating Trees From Inside Academy” (2021).

And about his practice and development in collective projects we have: “What is Missing is Love” (2017), “Meeting Station” (2019) and “Ruminar o Museu” (2022); “Tecer Outras Coisas” (2010-2015); “Rastilho” (2012); “Wochenklausur - Classes en el Monte” (2012); “Pitar na Cangosteira” (2019-2020). And he also has an experience as manager in an exhibition space: O Sol Aceita a Pele Para Ficar (2015-2017) and Laboratório das Artes (2004-2006).
